Markland Wood

Hi there,
This is my first blog post so please go easy on me. I live within the Markland Wood community and just wanted to say how nice it is here. Actually, I think Markland Wood is probably one of the nicest residential communities I have experience, worldwide.
A little history about Markland Wood; In the late 1950's, the Silverthorn family sold their farm to Mark Cavotti, a developer in Toronto. The land sat vacant for a while and was nick named "Mark's Land" by Cavotti friends. Development of Markland Wood started in 1960 with the first houses being completed in or about 1962. You can read more about the Markland Wood history on the http://www.marklandwood.org, history page.
Markland Wood holds some pretty interesting events throughout the year, with the flagship event being the Annual Christmas Caravan and Food Drive. Started in 1967, this event consistantly collects over 15,000 pounds of food, a cube van of clothing and money for four charities.
The oldest Toronto community newsletter/newspaper is the Markland Wood, Marklander. The Marklander has been in circulation since 1962. Ten copies per year are delivered to whomever registers and becomes a member of the Markland Homes Association. Some of the past copies of the Marklander can be found on the http://www.marklandwood.org website as well.
More to be added about Markland Wood later. For now, thank you.
